World Destruction: Hype in Japan brings Anime and Manga before Game release

World Destruction is a DS game that is being developed by Image Epoch and published by Sega. Its design staff consists of the brilliant minds that brought us Xenogears (Masato Kato as the scenario writer, Kunihiko Tanaka  as the character designer, and Yasunori Mitsuda as the game composer). Knowing that Xenogears is a classic, there is a lot of hype and anticipation for the team’s new creation… in Japan anyway. There’s so much hype, an anime series and manga series have been released before the game.

The anime series is produced by Production IG (the ones who brought you Ghost in the Shell) and started airing July 7th. The manga series will be published by MediaWorks and start its run on July 26th. The game will be released in Japan on September 25th. There are no plans to release the game outside of Japan. If you can’t wait for the day World Destruction is announced to be released for the Western audience, you can get your fix by watching the anime or reading the manga when it comes out.

World Destruction introduces a new idea of good guys destroying the world rather than saving it. In the WD world, beastmen reign over the lands. Humans are living in secluded villages under fear. The protagonist, Kirie, is a teenage boy who is working part-time in a beastman’s restaurant, disguised as a beastman. His daily routine changes once a teenage girl with an enormous blade appears in the restaurant. It turns out that the girl is Morte, part of the “World Destruction Committee”, and she is wanted by the World Salvation Committee.

The WSC quickly bombards into the restaurant attempting to take out Morte, however she uses Kirie as a hostage, only to have her plan fail once Kirie’s fake beast ears fall. With no choice left, Morte clears way and drags Kirie with her. Once they found some cover, the two converse and it is revealed that Morte has the item that can bring complete destruction to the world, the Destructo Code. The Destructo Code only reacts to people who have destructive powers. The item reacts to Kirie and the two fates were sealed.

E3: Chrono Trigger DS controls and tid bits

July 16th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in DS, News | By: Kevin

At E3, there was a playable version of Chrono Trigger for the DS. The control scheme remained the same as it was for the SNES and if people do not feel like using the button layout, they are free to use the touch screen. The touchscreen controls are simple. If your stylus is touching the right of the screen, Crono moves to the right. The further your stylus is, the greater the movement. Using the touchscreen during a battle is pretty simple too, touch a command on the menu. In other CT news, the translation for the DS port will be brand-spanking-new.

Looks like Chrono Trigger will be part of the old school wave this year.

Relive Chrono Trigger - DS Style!

Hey there Chrono fans and JRPG fans. This is probably one of the biggest news for RPG players this year. Chrono Trigger is being released for the DS some time this holiday season in North America. The DS port utilizes the DS’s touch screen. Don’t worry, there’s some extra goodies (such as a new dungeon and a multiplayer function). A JRPG classic with new content… and for some strange reason, wireless multiplayer battles. Fans may enjoy exploring the new dungeon while people who never got the chance to play Chrono Trigger will experience its magic. The time is ticking.

We decided to change the name of the show to Vice Weekly as it seemed more fitting for us. This week we talk more about MGS4, get into the nonense that is the battle of GTA4 vs Saints Row 2. Mel touches on what he likes (and didn’t like for that matter) about Ninja Gaiden 2 all while a loud thunderstorm was brewing outside.
