Square Enix has been hard at work lately regardless of how many Fanboy’s they have irked, Square has gotten down to the nitty-gritty with games that have…not been mentioned at E3. Everyone has wondered what took Final fantasy XIII so long and expected a 2011 release here in the West. The US is supposedly getting this game in Spring 2010 at this point, despite the fact that the game has yet to release in japan, which leads me to believe that localization is stalling the overall project at this point.
Never mind all that, the PSN just received Final Fantasy VII and after logging 25 hours in a little over a week, I sure am pleased, but Square Isn’t done at all, even after mentioning Final Fantasy Dissidia for the PSP (September 11, 2009) and Final fantasy XIV MMO for the PS3. There are three more titles in the works that were not even mentioned at E3, two are old re-makes and one is a brand new game set to release in Japan in 2010…I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m sure you’ve heard of a game called Final Fantasy Versus XIII which is still in the works, people have wondered if they even abandoned this title due to not seeing anything it at E3.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII is Tetsuya Nomura’s big title and I assure you that it will be coming out, but probably sometime after the end of the world.
Gamers should expect a big blowout at the next Tokyo Game Show (September 24-27 2009) as the US shouldn’t expect this game until probably 3Q-4Q 2011, but hopefully we can finally get some Trailers featuring game play by then. The one shocker about “Versus” is that it will not be turn-based like Final Fantasy XIII, but rather in real-time which should be an interesting bridging of the gap between RPG’s and Platform games.
Enough about “Versus” and more onto what has me personally excited and that is (drum roll, please) Final Fantasy I & II re-make for the PSP! Personally, these games are what got me started in RPG’s and I played them when they very 1st game out, plus I picked them up again back when I had a PSP.

Now I have to go and get another PSP just to play these two games again, this is something that was long overdue. I think that handheld systems are the way to go for RPG’s as they are too time consuming as it is, even though I beat FFI in under 26 hours.
The one question that I asked was “what will the re-make’s feature?” Well, I ask no more.
- New character art
- Enhanced graphics
- New dungeons
- New camera view
- 16:9 aspect ratio
That is what I call a re-make and by tweaking the aspect ratio, you would have to update the graphics as the graphics would render the game virtually unplayable. These two games will be released July 24, 2009 at $29.99 each which isn’t bad being $10.00 more than the originals on the PSP while receiving pretty much a complete overhaul which they were overdue for.
Will you be purchasing the Final Fantasy I & II re-makes for the PSP, or are you going to pass?

If there is anything that is stalling FFXIII then that would be the Xbox360
I’d only consider buying if released as a ps3/psp playable game and if they have not yet release a downloadable version of the legacy of kain series. I really hope that this doesn’t eliminate any chance of bringing back backwards compatibility to all sku’s.
As far as I know the original Final fantasy games will be PSP only, but I’m not too knowledgeable about the PSP integration with the PS3….I just know that you can sync your PSP with the PSP in regards to playing games that are on your PS3 with your PSP remotely…
not to mention downloading psone classics and PSP games onto your PSP via the Playstation store…
but that’s as far as my knowledge on the topic goes..
Great games blog, cheers
