Kojima to Sacrifice Quality?

Kojima to Sacrifice Quality?

Hideo Kojima announced at GDC ‘09 that he would be working on a new title, some hope for a new IP, some believe in a Metal Gear spin-off featuring Ninja Raiden due to a very con. Whichever the case, more details will be released at this year’s E3. The second biggest question(the first being “what is the game?”) about Kojima’s next title is will the game sacrifice quality to conform to the multi-platform standard of this console generation. The answer is absolutely not. Hideo Kojima has become a legend in the gaming industry by not conforming to gaming standards, re-inventing the wheel not so much so that the average user is turned off but just enough to dazzle and amaze every single time. The legendary Hideo Kojima has never once sacrificed the quality of his creations. The Metal Gear series as a whole has always been designed with the most tools available to make the game as cinematic as possible.  The console with the most tools available this generation happens to be the Playstation 3. With still no announcement at all to port Metal Gear Solid 4 onto the Xbox 360 I can only imagine that Hideo Kojima knows which platform to utilize to get the best quality  out of his time spent.

Is this to say the Xbox 360 will never see a Hideo Kojima title? Far from it. Kojima talks about expanding his Western audience, and while most think this means he’s willing to do a multi-platform game considering the 360’s hold on the Western market, I don’t believe that Kojima could sit down and make a game knowing not only is he limited by existing technology, but he can’t even use 100% of the tools available to him. I would imagine if anything we might begin to see a good amount of timed PS3 exclusives from the Metal Gear creator and ports to the 360 at a later date when he can find acceptable ways to make his products run just as well on both consoles. Kojima shares a motto with us here on the Gaming Vice staff and that is quality over quantity. Even though he stands to make more money and generate more sales by making his games multi-platform, I have never seen an instance where Hideo Kojima has sacrificed the quality of his product to please anyone and I don’t believe we’ll see him begin now. I say with full confidence and may our site lose credibility if I’m wrong. If Hideo Kojima announces his next project as multi-platform it will max out the current limitations of the Playstation 3 and he will have found a way to get the same quality out of the Xbox 360. Say what you will about limitations and call me a fool for even suggesting that its even possible for the 360 to match the PS3 but if this new title is multi-platform it will be what convinces everyone that the 360 can compete even with Sony’s massive assault on the market this year.
